As Christian career women, we often find ourselves navigating a delicate balance. We want to grow, lead, and make an impact—but we’re determined to do it God’s way. Yet in today’s competitive workplace, that isn’t always easy.
I know this struggle well because I’ve lived it.
For nearly 20 years, I’ve climbed the career ladder. Along the way, I’ve experienced promotions and setbacks, supportive colleagues and difficult ones. But when I became a Christian, I found myself wrestling with questions that many of you may recognize:
Can I pursue a promotion without compromising my values?
Is it boastful to talk about my accomplishments?
Does ambition mean I’m being greedy?
At times, I shrank back. I avoided visibility, stayed silent about my achievements, and hesitated to advocate for myself.
But God began teaching me a different way—and part of that teaching came through a book that deeply impacted me: Carol Heard’s Becoming a Woman of Excellence.
Inspired by Cynthia Heald’s Becoming a Woman of Excellence
Cynthia Heald’s book planted seeds of truth in my heart that continue to shape how I approach both my faith and my career. Here are a few highlights that stayed with me:
Excellence begins in the heart. It’s not just about outward success, but about cultivating Christlike character.
God’s standard of excellence is rooted in faithfulness, humility, and integrity. It’s about who you are when no one is watching.
Excellence requires intentionality and discipline. It doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when we purpose in our hearts to honor God in all we do.
Excellence brings glory to God. Our work is not about lifting up ourselves—but about reflecting His goodness and grace in every space we occupy.
Excellence as Worship
Excellence is more than achievement. It is an act of worship.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31
When you bring your best effort to your work, not for applause but for His glory, you are worshiping God through your work.
Excel Means to Ascend
In Hebrew, the word excel is ‘alah (ha-lah) — meaning to ascend.
Excellence is about rising, climbing higher, becoming more of who God created you to be.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:14
Be Your Best — Not The Best
Excellence doesn’t mean outshining others. It means being your best, according to the gifts God has given you.
“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” — Romans 12:6
Your calling is unique. Your assignment is yours alone.
Excellence is a Journey, Not a Destination
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Excellence happens one faithful step at a time. Keep climbing. Keep becoming.
Let’s Rise Together
This is why I founded the Christian Career Women Network—to create a space where ambitious, faith-filled women can grow professionally while staying grounded in their values.
If you’re ready to rise with confidence, clarity, and purpose—without compromising your faith—I invite you to join us.
