Whether we realize it or not, we make hundreds of decisions every single day. Some are small, like what we’ll wear, what we’ll eat, or what we’ll read during our commute. Others are more significant—whether to take a new job, start a business, or relocate our families.
At first glance, those small daily choices may seem insignificant, but over time, they shape our lives.
- What you choose to wear to work each day may not seem important, but over time, your style becomes part of your personal brand and professional image.
- Reading one industry article on your commute may not change your career overnight, but making it a daily habit can equip you with expertise that sets you apart.
Our big decisions are often a reflection of the small, consistent choices we make every day. So, how do we ensure that we’re making wise, God-honoring decisions?
3 Biblical Steps to Making Good Decisions
1. Pray for Wisdom and Discernment
Let’s be honest—when faced with a tough decision, our first instinct is often to stress, strategize, or overanalyze. But God calls us to trust, seek, and submit.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Submitting to God means releasing control and acknowledging that His way is the best way. But how do we seek His direction?
We pray.
James 1:5 tells us:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Before you make a decision—big or small—pause, pray, and ask God for wisdom. His guidance will never fail you.
2. Count the Cost
Every decision has consequences, and as wise women of faith, we must be intentional about counting the cost before moving forward.
Luke 14:28-30 says:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’”
This passage isn’t just about financial planning—it’s about wisdom, responsibility, and credibility.
Ask yourself:
- What are the “towers” I am building?
- A stronger family foundation?
- A career that honors God?
- A deeper relationship with Christ?
- Have I counted the cost?
- What sacrifices will this decision require?
- Will it bring me closer to God or distract me from my faith?
- How will it impact my future?
Whatever you are building, remember—your credibility is on the line. Make decisions that reflect wisdom, integrity, and faith.
3. Seek Wise Counsel
As Christian women, we don’t have to make decisions alone. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us:
“Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”
God is our ultimate counselor, and His Word offers clear direction. Some decisions are simple because the Bible speaks directly to them.
For example:
- If a married man is pursuing you—the answer is NO. (God does not condone adultery.)
- If you’re asked to act dishonestly at work—the answer is NO. (God calls us to integrity.)
But what about decisions the Bible doesn’t explicitly address?
- Should you relocate for a job?
- Should you start a business?
- Should you switch careers?
For these, it’s wise to seek counsel from trusted, spiritually mature believers—mentors, pastors, or Christian friends who will pray with you and offer wisdom.
Making Decisions with Confidence
Every decision—big or small—shapes the course of our lives. Let’s commit to seeking God’s wisdom, counting the true cost, and surrounding ourselves with wise counsel.
Before you step into this new week, ask yourself:
- Am I inviting God into my decision-making?
- Am I willing to trust Him even when the answer isn’t clear?
- Am I making choices that reflect my faith and values?
Let’s put God first in all we do.
Wishing you a blessed and purposeful week! Until next time, God bless!
