Early in my career, the path to success was straightforward: work hard, demonstrate competence, and deliver results. Hard work and competence were the name of the game. But as I’ve grown and reached the executive level, I’ve realized that success requires more than technical skills. Relationships, organizational savvy, and personal branding have become crucial. Developing these skills has been a different kind of challenge, one that has required me to lean on God like never before.
Here are three key lessons I’ve learned as I’ve navigated this season of growth:
1. Living Out God’s Word
Studying the Bible is essential, but living it out is transformational. God’s Word is the ultimate guide for navigating the complexities of leadership, relationships, and decision-making. For me, applying principles like humility, patience, and integrity has been critical.
Supporting Scripture: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” – James 1:22 (NIV)
2. Seeking Wise Counsel
Having a personal board of advisors to help you navigate your career is key to professional advancement. I’ve been blessed with mentors and a sponsor who provide wisdom and perspective. One of my mentors is a Christian woman entrepreneur and former corporate executive who understands the challenges I face. Her Godly counsel has helped me navigate tough decisions and remain anchored in my faith.
Supporting Scripture: “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” – Proverbs 12:15 (NIV)
3. Maintaining Balance
Life happens in seasons. There are busy seasons at work and in our personal lives. The concept of balance is one that generates much debate, and with all of life’s demands, it often feels elusive. However, striving for balance forces us to continually evaluate our priorities and how we spend our time.
Finding balance begins with recognizing that not every season will look the same. Achieving success without compromising my overall well-being is a daily discipline. I strive to prioritize my health, nurture important relationships, and make time for interests outside of work. Maintaining balance has required intentionality and trust in God’s provision.
Supporting Scripture: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
As I thank God for His many blessings and the ways He has equipped me to fulfill my calling, I trust Him to continue guiding my steps, opening doors, and providing strength for the challenges ahead. Wherever you are in your journey, I encourage you to lean into God, seek His wisdom, and trust Him to lead you to greater heights.
Here’s to a year of faith, growth, and impact!
