The Reality of a Full Life
As women of faith, many of us carry full lives. We are wives, mothers, leaders, executives, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and keepers of our homes. We manage meetings, deadlines, relationships, and responsibilities that never seem to slow down. And if we are honest, in the midst of juggling it all, time with God can quietly slip to the bottom of the list, not because He is not important, but because everything else feels urgent.
I have lived this reality more times than I care to admit.
When I Am at My Best
Yet I have also learned something about myself. When I am at my best, centered, clear, grounded, and purposeful, it is because I have intentionally carved out time with God and made that time non-negotiable.
That does not mean trying to squeeze God into an already crowded schedule. It means doing the opposite. It means allowing my time with God to shape everything else.
The Discipline Behind the Devotion
For me, that often looks like making practical, disciplined choices. If I want quiet time in the morning, then I need to go to bed earlier the night before. If I want space to hear from God, I cannot wait until I am exhausted or distracted. I have to plan for it, just as intentionally as I plan for meetings, deadlines, and commitments.
Weekday Stillness
On weekdays, my favorite quiet times happen early in the morning. I rise before the day begins, sit at my desk in front of the window, Bible open, journal nearby, a warm cup of tea in hand, and watch the sun rise. In that stillness, I am able to slow down, soak in God’s Word, and quiet the noise that so often competes for my attention.
Weekend Rest
On weekends, when I rise a little later, my rhythm looks different but the intention remains the same. I like to sit on the patio, enjoy the warm Florida sun, and spend that time with God in a more relaxed, unhurried way.
Where Clarity Begins
And on the days when I need direction, when I am facing a decision, a crossroads, or uncertainty, it is often during these quiet moments that I sense a gentle nudge from God. Not always loud. Not always dramatic. Just a quiet clarity that settles in my spirit and gives me the confidence to move forward with decisive action.
An Invitation for the New Year
As we begin this new year, my encouragement to you is simple. Do not wait for time with God to fit into your life. Choose to make space for Him. Let your schedule bend around your time with God, not the other way around.
Because when we start our days with Him, when we listen before we act and seek Him before we decide, we do not just manage our lives better. We live them more fully, more faithfully, and with greater peace.
Reflection
What would it look like for you to make God the first appointment of your day in this season of your life?
