As Christian career women, we live full and demanding lives. Between managing our careers, caring for our families, serving in our communities, and staying connected to loved ones, our schedules can quickly become overwhelming. That’s why self-care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
When we are intentional about rest, renewal, and time with God, we not only strengthen ourselves but also position ourselves to better serve those around us. Here are a few reminders to help you make self-care a purposeful part of your life:
1. Take time to care for your mind, body, and soul
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. — Hebrews 4:9-11
God Himself modeled rest for us. Whether it’s a full weekend away or simply a quiet hour at home, carving out space for your mind, body, and soul is vital. Sleep in when you can. Spend unhurried time in God’s Word. Take a walk. Nourish your body with healthy food. Create moments to unplug from constant activity so you can hear God’s voice more clearly.
2. Find joy in the simple things
A glad heart makes a cheerful face…
— Proverbs 15:13
Self-care isn’t only about slowing down—it’s also about doing things that make your heart glad. Listen to uplifting music, attend a worship night, or engage in hobbies that bring you joy. Make time for the people who fill your life with love and encouragement. Laughter, fun, and meaningful connection are good for the soul and remind us that God designed life to be enjoyed.
3. Be purposeful about planning it
Rest doesn’t happen by accident—it happens by design. Block out time on your calendar, even months in advance, for activities that help you recharge. Whether it’s a day of rest at home, a prayer retreat, or a few hours of solitude, be intentional about guarding that time.
Sister, I want to encourage you to make self-care a non-negotiable part of your life. The demands of career and family will always be there, but when you care for your mind, body, and soul, you’re better equipped to fulfill your calling with excellence, integrity, and joy.
